I come from a cray cray suburb in Tejas, but I'm now spending most of the year living it up in D.C. I enjoy making metaphorical love to my platonic soul mates, passing for a lesbian, drinking chai tea in coffee shops, writing esoteric poetry, being a gay rights activist and laughing at my own jokes. Damn straight
Fuck yes they do.
My thighs are probably the part of my body I’m most uncomfortable with. But you know what? They’re fine.
I think the ideal of ‘thighs not touching’ is one of the most absurd of society’s standards of female beauty. I mean, I think most of it’s pretty silly, but THIGHS ARE SUPPOSED TO MY CURVY AND JIGGLY. No hate to the girls who have itty bitty thighs though.
I think we should be focusing more on HEALTH rather than absurd beauty ideals. It’s not healthy to starve yourself and it’s not healthy to overeat and not exercise. And I want to emphasize it’s not solely about weight. Some people are curvy and healthy and some people are thin and destroying their bodies. I used to overeat unhealthy food and not exercise and my cholesterol was absurdly high and I was at risk for a FUCKING HEART ATTACK AT 18, and yeah, I was thin, but that doesn’t mean my body was healthy. We have access to an unprecedented amount of processed and extremely unhealthy food. And we need to be encouraged to make healthy choices regardless of our bodies. And we should definitely still indulge every now and then. And ultimately, it’s an individual’s personal decision what they put in their body, so we shouldn’t shame people if they don’t want to do the healthy thing. I do think our society should encourage making healthy decisions more though. We’re starting to shift towards that, but there’s definitely a lot of encouragement to make unhealthy decisions. And it’s so much easier not to exercise and eat processed food.
Shaming people for their bodies or their choices isn’t the answer.
But these are just my thoughts.
